Software License Terms
Plain-English notice: This page is provided for customer clarity and should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before relying on it for paid advertising, commercial distribution, or high-volume software sales.
License, not sale
SmithShop ecommerce software is licensed, not sold. A SmithShop purchase gives the customer permission to install and use the software under these terms. SmithShop, its source code, update packages, branding, documentation, add-ons, and related materials remain the property of SmithShop and its owner unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.
One site license
Unless otherwise stated in writing, each paid SmithShop license key is for one active production site or domain. A customer may use a reasonable local, staging, or backup copy for testing and recovery, but may not use one license key to operate multiple unrelated production stores.
Trial use
The trial version is provided so a customer can inspect SmithShop, test installation, review the admin area, create sample products, and evaluate checkout and update behavior before purchase. Trial limits, feature limits, and licensing rules may change as SmithShop is improved.
Permitted use
- Install and run SmithShop for the licensed store.
- Configure settings, content, products, design, payments, shipping, taxes, email, and add-ons for the licensed store.
- Make reasonable store-specific edits needed to operate the licensed store.
- Keep backups for recovery and update safety.
Restrictions
- Do not resell, redistribute, sublicense, rent, lease, publish, or give away SmithShop source code, release packages, license keys, or paid add-ons.
- Do not remove SmithShop proprietary notices, licensing controls, update signatures, or security controls except as allowed by law or written permission.
- Do not use SmithShop to build a competing software product by copying SmithShop code, structure, documentation, update logic, or add-on logic.
- Do not share private update links, emergency restore tokens, API credentials, payment keys, or other secrets.
Customer-owned data
The customer owns their store data, product content, customer records, order records, uploads, downloads, settings, and business content. The customer is responsible for backing up that data and for complying with privacy, tax, shipping, product, advertising, and consumer protection laws that apply to their store.
Add-ons
Paid add-ons are licensed for the same store unless a separate add-on license says otherwise. Add-ons may require third-party accounts, credentials, billing, or approval from outside providers such as payment processors, shipping carriers, analytics platforms, email services, or AI providers.
Updates
SmithShop updates may include bug fixes, security hardening, compatibility changes, feature improvements, database updates, and documentation changes. Customers should keep backups and test updates before depending on them for live sales.
No guarantee of business results
SmithShop provides ecommerce software tools. SmithShop does not guarantee sales, search rankings, ad approvals, traffic, conversion rates, uptime, tax accuracy, shipping accuracy, legal compliance, or compatibility with every host, server, third-party service, browser, theme edit, or custom code change.
