Shipping and carrier services

Flat shipping, free shipping threshold, live or estimated rates, UPS, USPS, FedEx, expanded services, and freight add-on planning.

Shipping choices

  • Flat shipping is always available for physical carts and uses the value from Store Settings.
  • The free shipping threshold can make flat shipping zero when the cart subtotal reaches the configured amount.
  • Digital-only carts skip shipping and use digital delivery automatically.

Carrier rates

  • UPS, USPS, and FedEx can be enabled separately.
  • UPS supports expanded checkout choices such as Ground, 3 Day Select, 2nd Day Air, Next Day Air, and Next Day Air Early when the live API returns them.
  • USPS supports Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express when available, Media Mail, and Library Mail. Media Mail and Library Mail should only be offered for eligible products.
  • FedEx supports Ground, Express Saver, 2 Day, 2 Day AM, and Standard Overnight when the live API returns them.
  • Each carrier has its own credential fields and environment setting. Use sandbox or test mode when available before switching to production.
  • If credentials are missing or a carrier call fails, SmithShop uses estimated rates so checkout can still be tested.

Service selection

  • Use the service checkboxes to decide which methods customers can choose, such as ground only or ground plus 2nd day.
  • Only selected services are shown at checkout for that carrier.
  • Product weight and dimensions affect estimated and live rates, so physical products should have realistic package values.

Freight add-ons

  • Freight shipping belongs in Admin > Add-ons so normal parcel shipping stays simple.
  • Freight providers can require heavier product data such as freight class, pallet handling, weight, dimensions, residential delivery, and liftgate needs.
  • Use manual freight quote as the safe fallback until a freight provider integration has been tested with real credentials.
